Welcome to the Web Page of Jodie P. Boyer!
Because I am a Graduate Student, I am required to do research for my advisor Carl A. Gunter. Here is a description of my main research areas
My main research project is called Building Automation Middleware (BAM) This work focuses on developing a safe and secure connection between the building automation system and the Internet. We hope that this work will eventually allow researchers to leverage the building as a platform to study ubiquitous computing systems.
I have also worked on a project is called LocFlow. LocFlow concerns the creation of location sensitive workflow monitoring. We are concerned with seeing how tasks in peoples work map into workflows and then use location tracking technology provided by Ubisense to monitor these workflows. By monitoring the progression of a workflow we are able to send alerts if something is not progressing as it should.
I am also interested in how to use location tracking technology while still affording people a comfortable sense of privacy. To this end, I have developed a privacy sensitive location tracking system for the Seibel Center called Janus's Map. Recently, Janus's Map was featured in the Daily Illini and ACM Tech Notes
